In Between

The urban block is often perceived as a collection of buildings, while the spaces between them remain undefined residual areas. The project proposes to reinterpret these residual spaces as an integral part of the block, viewing them as an active intermediate layer that mediates between the building and the city. Through a system of pavilions derived from and extending the existing typology, a sequence of public and semi-public spaces is formed, encouraging social interaction, work, play, dwelling, and observation, and extending everyday residential life beyond the boundaries of the individual apartment.
