“RAIL- “sitting on raiilings

A series of interpretations and interventions centered on a single object — the urban railing. RAIL is a collection of urban objects based on the local culture of “sitting on the rails” and the informal uses that have developed around them. Over time, the urban railing, originally designed to separate and define boundaries, has become a place where people choose to stop — to sit, lean, wait, talk, or gather. These everyday, spontaneous actions have transformed the railing from a purely functional object into a familiar meeting point in local street life. Through observation of the behaviors and interactions that have evolved around it, three objects were developed, each offering different possibilities for staying, meeting, and interacting — from group gatherings and face-to-face conversation to interaction between a person and the object itself. The collection preserves the formal language, simplicity, and freedom of use associated with the original railing, while giving these qualities a contemporary interpretation that invites people to stop, meet, and take part in public space.
